Erectile Dysfunction Sex Therapy
Struggling to Get or Maintain an Erection?
Erection difficulties can quickly become much more than a physical problem.
One difficult sexual experience creates worry about the next one.
Then sex becomes a test:
"Will I get an erection?"
"Will I lose it?"
"What will my partner think?"
That pressure itself can make arousal increasingly difficult.
At Intimacy Counselling NZ, we provide confidential sex therapy for erection difficulties, sexual performance anxiety and the relationship effects of erectile dysfunction.
What Causes Erectile Dysfunction?
Erection difficulties can have physical, psychological or combined causes.
Contributors can include medical conditions, medications, stress, anxiety, relationship difficulties and performance anxiety. Erectile dysfunction can also sometimes indicate an underlying health condition, so medical assessment is important, particularly for persistent or new erection difficulties.
Performance Anxiety & Erections
Once someone becomes worried about losing their erection, attention can shift away from pleasure and towards monitoring performance.
Instead of experiencing sex, you're observing yourself having it.
Sex therapy can help break this cycle.
How Can Sex Therapy Help?
Therapy may address:
Performance anxiety
Sexual confidence
Fear of losing erections
Communication with your partner
