Janine Kantor
I am a behavioural specialist and counsellor with a particular interest in supporting children, adolescents, young adults, individuals, couples, and their families. My approach is warm, practical and highly individualised. I create a space where clients feel understood and accepted while receiving clear, evidence-informed strategies that can make a meaningful difference in everyday life.
My work brings together counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), paediatric applied behaviour analysis (ABA), educational assessment and functional intervention. I support clients with ADHD, autism-spectrum presentations, dyslexia, dyscalculia, learning differences, anxiety, emotional-regulation difficulties, executive-function challenges and social communication needs. Rather than focusing only on a diagnosis or particular behaviour, I consider the whole person—including their strengths, environment, relationships, learning profile and the underlying function of their difficulties. I also have a special interest in supporting twice-exceptional (2e) children and young people who demonstrate high ability or giftedness alongside developmental or learning differences.
I provide comprehensive cognitive and educational assessments to investigate dyslexia, dyscalculia and other specific learning difficulties. Assessments explore areas such as reading, spelling, written expression, mathematics, oral language, phonological processing, working memory, processing speed and broader cognitive abilities. I also assess executive-function and attention-related difficulties and contribute to the assessment and understanding of autism-spectrum presentations. Each assessment is designed to identify not only areas of difficulty, but also the person’s strengths and unique learning profile.
Following an assessment, I provide clear feedback and practical recommendations for families, schools and other professionals. This may include guidance regarding classroom accommodations, learning support, intervention priorities and possible Special Assessment Conditions. Where appropriate, I can develop individual learning or education plans and work collaboratively with parents and teachers to translate assessment findings into achievable strategies.
I develop individualised intervention programmes for children and adolescents who need support with attention, working memory, organisation, task initiation, cognitive flexibility, emotional regulation and managing the expectations of school and home. I also offer structured social communication programmes to help young people interpret social situations, express their needs, develop confidence, navigate friendships and build stronger relationships.
A further area of special interest is supporting twice-exceptional (2e) learners—young people who demonstrate high ability or giftedness alongside ADHD, autism, dyslexia, executive-function difficulties or other learning needs. Their strengths can mask their challenges, while their difficulties may prevent others from recognising their potential. My 2e intervention programmes support both sides of the learner’s profile, helping young people build essential skills and self-understanding while protecting their individuality, creativity and strengths.
I provide one-to-one counselling for adolescents and young adults experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, identity concerns, academic or workplace pressure, task paralysis and challenging life transitions. Sessions are collaborative and focus on helping each person understand their patterns, identify what may be getting in the way and develop realistic strategies that can be used beyond the counselling room.
I also work closely with parents, caregivers, teachers and other professionals. Where appropriate, I help families understand behaviour through a functional and developmental lens, establish achievable goals and implement consistent strategies across home, school and community settings. My aim is not simply to manage difficulties, but to help young people and their families feel more capable, connected and hopeful.
Every person brings a unique combination of strengths, experiences and challenges. I meet clients where they are, listen carefully to what matters to them and build support around their real lives. Whether a family is seeking an assessment, guidance following a diagnosis, counselling, or support with a particular learning, behavioural or emotional concern, I provide compassionate care alongside practical pathways forward.
