Indy Hennah-Wood

Kia Ora, my name’s Indy (she/her),

I am a third-year counselling student in the BHS (Bachelor of Health Science) program at AUT.

My primary focus is creating a non-judgemental, empathetic, accepting environment for clients, where they feel comfortable being vulnerable. I am deeply committed to empowering clients, instilling confidence in their capabilities, and nurturing trust in their own intuition.

I have supported clients facing a variety of challenges, including anxiety, grief, trauma, emotional distress, and body image struggles. I am passionate about tailoring the counselling approach to suit the unique needs of each client. I integrate various counselling modalities, including person-centred therapy, narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, and transactional analysis.

I have Māori whakapapa and am dedicated to infusing te ao Māori principles and therapy models into my professional practice and personal life. I hold a strong belief in upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and am committed to ongoing learning. I am dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and affirming therapeutic space for individuals within the LGBTQ+ community and their relationships.

Outside of counselling I enjoy going to the beach, bouldering, quality time with friends and family, and creating art.
